Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Our main ethos is to plan our curriculum with the interests of the children in mind.  We believe that we can achieve a high level of engagement, learning outcomes and mind- set towards learning through adapting our styles of teaching to suit your child’s passions.

Throughout their time at Lickhill Primary School your child’s emotional well-being is at the forefront.  We believe that a happy and settled child will be open to learning opportunities.  All our trained staff will be co-adventurers in their experiences throughout the Reception Year.  We play alongside the children and put words to the learning that they areliving.

Staffing:-

Monday – Wednesday Mrs Williams

Thursday-Friday Miss Thomson

Monday –Friday Mrs Fullwood (full time Reception Teaching Assistant)

Monday – Friday Mrs Griffiths (part time Reception Teaching Assistant)

Weekly Routine:-

The staff will be available every day after school for any quick queries.  If you have any queries please catch us after school to alleviate any worries straight away, but please wait until we have dismissed ALL of the children first.  If you need a more detailed chat please arrange a mutually convenient time.

Communication/Reading Books

Please ensure that your child has these in school everyday.  The Reception Team will keep the Communication books on a Monday to add our weekly newsletter so that you are aware of what is happening during the coming week.  Please also use it to inform us of anything that we need to know about your child that day.  We endeavour to check these everyday.

Homework

We believe that it is very important for the children to see the close relationship between home and school.  Therefore home learning tasks will be set every other week.  They will mostly be practical family tasks.

Our topic for the first term is “Magical Me” and then Celebrations after half term.

How can you support us:-

Please ensure the children have good habits with regards to sleeping during school days.  Their tiredness has a huge impact on their well-being and ability to learn.

Please can you send in water for the children to have in class and we will supply fresh fruit daily.  The children are allowed to drink squash at lunchtimes.

Our expectations are that the children read daily and take part in the home learning tasks.  We fully understand how tired the children are going to get so please read to them if they are not in the mood!  This will get better after Christmas once they are established in a school routine.
