Swimming Gala

On Saturday 17th March, twenty KS2 children from Lickhill Primary School took part in an inter-school swimming gala organized by Wyre Forest Swimming Club. The event took place at Stourport Sports Centre and the atmosphere was electric!

This was a first for Lickhill as we hadn’t participated in a gala before and they did us proud!! Their enthusiasm, hard work and endeavor was superb, cheering each other on no matter what position they came.  Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Throup and Mrs. Lloyd were all very proud of the way our children presented themselves and worked as a team.

There were 4 teams – year 3/4 girls, year 3/4 boys, Y5/6 girls and Y5/6 boys. Each team had individual races of backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle/front crawl. They then worked as a team in the medley relay (mixed strokes) and a freestyle relay (usually front crawl).  All the points were totaled and the team awards were awarded a medal by one of our local swimmers who has recently got into the Olympics!! Wow!  All of our teams were fantastic, but a special mention needs to go out to the year 3/4 boys team who won many of their individual races and came overall first place in their age group. The Wyre Forest swimming club have asked many of our swimmers to come along and join their club after watching their competitive swimming in action.

Once again, a very rewarding evening – many thanks to all the parents who supported their children and cheered them along!!  A definite event for our calendar next year!

Water, water!

This week the school were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Paul Tingle from Severn Trent. He gave a very amusing assembly on the importance of saving water, which the children really enjoyed.
