Year 3 - Honey Bee Experts

In the last weeks of Spring Term, Year 3 were learning all about our native honeybees, the importance of beekeeping and how honey is made.

The children wrote fabulous non-fiction fact files about everything they discovered and drew beautifully detailed pictures of honeybees too.

At the end of the project, all children had the opportunity to explore our school colony. We spotted eggs, larvae, baby bees emerging from their cells, drones and even the queen.

This was also a really special day as we carried our brand new school hive to the apiary too. Stay tuned for more about that later.

Did you know? Beekeepers are also called honey farmers, apiarists, or less commonly, apiculturists (both from the Latin word for bee, apis).
