  • Year 5 STEM week

Fri 22 Mar 2024 Mrs Jones

Year 5 have had a super time developing their DT skills in readiness for STEM week.  They had to design a mechanism that could life a car onto a roof.

To prepare for this we practised safety skills when using hacksaws, craft knives and glue guns. We learnt about gears and pulleys as part of our DT topic - Mechanisms. Enjoy looking through our photos!

    PS

Thank you for the cardboard donations - much appreciated!

  • Y5 GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP

Mon 17 Jul 2023 Mrs McLeod

Year 5 had a wonderful day at the Severn Valley Country Park.  We walked the length of a tributary to the River Severn, all the way from its source to its mouth. After lunch and some free play, we then did some pond dipping and took 3 cross sections of the stream. It was muddy wet fun learning!

  • Year 4 Visit Kidderminster Carpet Museum

    Thu 06 Jul 2023 KH

The Year 4 visit to the Kidderminster Carpet museum was an incredible success. The children heard about the lives of children their own ages two hundred years ago. The change in flooring from dirt floors to carpet, and the important role Kidderminster in the process was fascinating. Kidderminster was the capital of the world for carpets! Stourport-on-Severn played an important part with its canal connections to the River Severn. The process from wool to carpet has many stages: shearing the sheep, washing and cleaning the wool, carding, spinning and then dying the wool. The first looms were used at home in the attics of people’s houses. Gradually large ‘sheds’ with hundreds of large looms appeared and the town began to make its presence known in the world. The special minerals in the River Stour enabled the dying process to produce vivid, bright colours. Sometimes the water in the river ran with a variety of different shades, depending on what type of colour was being used to dye the yarn.

  • Year 1 & 2 Trip to Bodenham Arboretum

    Tue 04 Jul 2023

Year 1 and 2 had an absolutely amazing time visiting Bodenham Arboretum on Thursday 29th June.  We walked around looking at (and hugging) a few of their 10,000 trees then had the best time in their Forest School area. We talked about seasons, types of tree, shapes of trees and why they are important to our environment.

The children were utterly immersed in activities such as fire striking, toasting bread, face painting, leaf rubbings, bug hunting and identification, crafts, mud kitchen and shelter making to name but a few!  They were a joy to observe!

The best part for us was to hear a tremendous amount of praise for the behaviour, engagement and enjoyment from all our children from the trip leaders at Bodenham. We are incredibly proud of them all.

  • Y5 planetarium trip!

Thu 08 Jun 2023 Mrs McLeod

Wow, what a fabulous show and what fabulous children. We enjoyed a tour of the solar system, travelled to the edge of the universe and looked at what the planets might look like in the future if humans were to live there.

The show was awesome with lots of gasps and oohs and ahhs from the children!

Super impressive questions from the children at the end.
