  • Year 6 evolution

Thu 17 Oct 2019 Mrs McLeod
Year 6 have been getting back into our Science topic - evolution.  We have been learning about adaptations and about how adaptations suit the habitat the organism lives in.  Today, we developed our learning in forest school with a very successful fossil hunt (showing us evidence of evolution) and also a great evolution game where the goshawk (Rob) tries to catch the birds and the foxes, the foxes try to eat the birds and the birds try to eat the worms.  Lots of fun!  Thanks Rob!!

  • Forensic Scientist visits Year 1 and 2!

Tue 15 Oct 2019 Mrs Rodriguez

Foot prints, finger prints and clothing fibres were all taken to try and solve the crime that had happened in out school hall. Mr Shaw, who is a forensic scientist set up a fake crime scene for us and showed us what he would do in his job to try and capture the culprit. He explained how important his protective clothing is to both help protect him and the crime scene. We got to try some of it on including: a face mask, shoe protectors, rubber gloves and  hair nets.

He also let us play with some of his equipment. - microscopes, fingerprint charts and much more.

We learnt so much from Mr Shaw today that we didn't know before. Thank you!

  • The New School Council Has Been Elected!

    Mon 14 Oct 2019

The new School Council team is in place. Each member has a special badge, so that they can be seen easily if they are needed. This week we elected a Chair Person,  a Deputy Chair Person, a Secretary and a Deputy Secretary. Any councillor, who wanted to apply for a post, told the group a bit about themselves and the qualities which they felt they could bring to the position. Councillors then voted democratically.

Our first task was to get the suggestion boxes up and running again. This is always a popular job, boxes are coming along nicely and will soon be in classrooms ready for suggestions.

  • Cornets and Skipping in one day!

    Thu 10 Oct 2019

Year 4 had a marvelous day on Thursday, beginning with a healthy skipping workshop. By the end of the session all children had taken their 'first skips' forwards, or backwards and the more experienced among them had learned a new trick, either individually or in pairs. Adam was impressed with the positive, 'Can Do' attitude of our pupils.

Later that day, the cornet lesson began with a new tune, which we learned to play in no time at all. I am extremely impressed with how quickly they seem to be picking up the new notes and keeping in time to the music.

  • Cross Country

    Thu 10 Oct 2019
On Friday some of our children went along to participate in the Inter-schools Cross Country Trials. The effort and commitment to trying your hardest was clearly evident in the performance of our pupils. We were thrilled to get children in the 'top places' in each race. Every child gave their very best, well don to them. Below is a selection of photos from the afternoon.
  • Year 2 animal encounters!

Thu 10 Oct 2019 Mrs Rodriguez

What an afternoon! Rob brought some of our Lickhill family into the classroom this afternoon: Gary the gecko, one of his children (Gary's not Rob's!), A giant African millipede and an Australian stick insect. The quality of the questions the children asked were impressive and because of this we learnt some amazing facts, such as:

    • The tail of this breed of gecko will fall off if they feel threatened or scared.
    • They live up to 3 years in the wild but most of them don't keep their tail until this age.
    • They only eat live food.
    • They can jump from tree to tree.
    • They have sticky feet which allow them to climb windows!
    • The giant millipedes excrete a foul smelling and tasting liquid to warn of predators.
    • Their feet are sticky, and feel a bit like a hair brush!
    • They eat rotten fruit and leaves.

That's just a taste of what they learnt today so thank you very much Rob!

  • Active maths in Year 2

Thu 10 Oct 2019 Mrs Rodriguez
Year 2 had great fun today trying to get themselves into order from smallest to biggest number. Numbers ranged from 1 to 199 on the post it notes they were given! The children weren't allowed to talk so had to come up with creative ways to communicate. It took a bit of teamwork but they did it! Great problem solving Year 2!
  • Year 5 Shadow Investigation!

Thu 10 Oct 2019 Kate Jones

Year 5 have been discovering why our shadows change during the day and why the sun appears to move across the sky.

At intervals throughout the day, we went out onto the playground and we observed our own shadows, their length and direction.  Our inquiry led to so many questions being generated and our scientific thoughts discussed.

We even used this data we collected back in our Maths session to chart the changes!

    Well done Year 5!

  • We're through to the final!!!!

Wed 09 Oct 2019 Mrs Rodriguez

60 children, from Year 1 to 6, took park in some pantomime workshops today.

Fun galore was had as they learnt how to project their voices, move, dance and act. The workshops were run by two professionals who are both heavily involved in the production of Cinderella, which is being performed at Kidderminster Town Hall this Christmas.

After the workshops, the children auditioned to perform at the turning on of Kidderminster Christmas lights this year; we had singing, dancing, gymnastics and even a bit if Karate!! The children blew me away with both their courage and talent, utilising all 7 of our Secrets to Success. They all got through to the final round of auditions so we need to get busy polishing our acts!!! Details will be sent home as soon as they are confirmed.

The children will also have the opportunity to audition to be in the Cinderella production!!

Michael was very impressed by the array of talent and has his eye on a few children he would like to get involved in his stage school!

Well done to all who took part and a huge thank you to Michael for his time, energy and inspiration. See you at the finals!
