  • Safer internet Day

    Thu 21 Mar 2019
Safer internet day was on 5th February this year. The whole school got involved with this important subject. Children took part in a whole school assembly, as well as a special parent assembly. Among the valuable and important contributions, Reception taught us that our heads feel 'fuzzy' with too much screen time. Year 1 and 2 showed us how Smartie the Penguin stays safe on the internet. Year 3 reported in detail about UK PEGI ratings on films and games. Years 4 and 5 acted out real life scenarios and finally, Year 6 talked about their own experiences using the internet. Children at Lickhill know how to stay safe on the internet and how important it is to talk to a responsible adult if they are unsure in any way.

  • Mummification!

    Mon 18 Mar 2019

Have you ever wondered whether a banana can travel safely into the after life? Year 4 mummified a banana, taking care to follow the ancient process accurately. Each banana had its own sarcophagus in which to lie, beautifully decorated with hieroglyphics and precious amulets.

  • Frogs multiplying!!

    Wed 13 Mar 2019

The frogs in the school pond were very busy multiplying today!  There were lots of them and they made quite a sound!!! Reception class were all very lucky to get a look up close. We are now waiting for our toads to get started.

  • Egyptian Clay Maks

    Mon 11 Mar 2019

Year 4 have finished their Egyptian Clay masks. Have a look at the detail in the modelling of facial features.

  • Volcano in Forest School!!

    Mon 11 Mar 2019

Rob told Year 2 about the volcano that 'lives under Forest School' today. The children had to work as a whole team to make their way from one end of the forest to the other without touching the lava field below them with their feet or hands. The children had to source appropriate wood and then work as a team to lay it down so they had a clear path. There was lots of problem solving entailed and some big emotions to process and manage too - it was very frustrating at times!!!  If they stepped in the lava, they had to join the back of the line and start again.

I was blown away by the teamwork, the communication and the resilience of the children. Every single child made it to the other end -  what a great team!

  • Rob saves a bee!

    Mon 11 Mar 2019

Year 2 were studying the pond to look for signs of life - they found pond snails, frogspawn and pond skaters. The frogs and toads were being shy....

Rob spotted a bee on the surface of the water and he was stuck. His wings were sodden and he couldn't fly. Rob rescued him and gently blew on him to help dry him out. After about 5 minutes he was dry enough to fly away. Phew! Another few minutes and he may not have made it....

    Super Rob to the rescue!!!

  • Pancake Day on Forest School!

    Mon 04 Mar 2019

In Forest School today, Year 2 made pancakes on the fire. They were delicious!!! Rob assured the children that the first couple of pancakes always go wrong but after that they would all be perfect. He was spot on!

At the start of the session, the children had to explain to Rob the best way to start a fire; they also had to collect all of the wood - thin sticks, pencil sticks and logs. They knew exactly where to look for the thin sticks: on the floor under the Silver Birch trees!
