  • Great start for all preschool children!

    Wed 25 Sep 2019

It has been a fantastic start to the new term, all children have settled well and are thriving in  their new environment.

The term started with us looking at ' All about me', the children have contributed with bringing a photo and drawing of their family and people special to them which is displayed in the preschool cloak room.

  • Year 3 are Young Pick Up Artists!

    Wed 25 Sep 2019 Mr Leavesley-Matthews

Thank you so much to Karen and the Pick Up Artists for their visit to Lickhill this afternoon.

Year 3 learnt all about the impact of littering on our environment and sadly witnessed the effect of littering from their parents generation too!

Armed with ‘gators’ and bag hoops, we swept the school site, safely collecting the rubbish that spoils our school environment, and worse harms our wildlife. Whilst we were proud of how much we managed to collect, we learnt lessons about being careful to put all of our rubbish in the right bins, inside and out of school.

We were very surprised to find that one crisp packet, caught in our school boundary, dated back to 1998! It was totally intact and demonstrated how single use, waste plastics can be so damaging to our planet.

The children will present their facts and findings about the experience to the rest of the school on Friday, but challenge them to share their facts at home. Perhaps, even join the Pick Up Artists on their next outing.

  • Year 2 and Year 5 Buddies

Wed 25 Sep 2019 Mrs Murrells

Year 2 have been getting to know their new Year 5 buddies. When we can, we meet weekly to do a whole variety of activities together. There might be a P.E focus (working on throwing and catching skills), a Thrive focus (accepting and appreciating differences) or an English focus (paired reading); the list of possibilities is endless!

Most recently we came together and played a game which worked on physical fitness and speed as well as the Thrive objective of accepting praise.

In their pairs the children had to do a compliments dash- race across the playground to their sheet of paper and write a compliment about their buddy and race back and pass the pen to their partner. Once the children were out of breath and compliments they came together to read their sheets. It was just gorgeous!

  • RECEPTION- New Intake information

Sat 21 Sep 2019 Mrs Williams
Reception will have their first Forest School session on Wednesday 25.9.19.  If you have not yet purchased waterproofs for the session they are in LIDL!  They are great value.
  • Year 4's First Ever Cornet Lesson!

    Thu 19 Sep 2019
Thursday was such an exciting day, watching Year 4 open their cornet cases was magical. At the start of lesson they were total novices, by the end that had played C and E on this beautiful instrument in time to some music. A fantastic start to your music lessons this year, well done.
  • What a week for year 4!

    Wed 18 Sep 2019

What a week this has been! On Monday we  launched the discovery topic on Portraiture and The Tudors for Year 3 and 4. The children were able to try on Tudor clothes and have their photograph taken. Later that day they tried some Tudor dancing, straight backs and serious expressions were part of the whole effect.

Tuesday saw all children try their very best in the school cross country challenge. Their resilient attitude was commendable. It was lovely to see them supporting eachother throughout the sessions.

All week we have been playing games to deepen our knowledge of place value. Great fun!

Later this week we will be completing our colour spots for the whole school display...

  • Year 6 active maths

Tue 17 Sep 2019 Mrs McLeod

Year 6 are well into our first maths topic - place value - and have enjoyed being able to do some active maths lessons as part of this.  We have done place value outside and rounding inside. Sometimes we even stop for a bit of exercise during maths just to keep our brains awake! In this photo we are doing a bit of Go Noodle.

  • Year 3 - Young Arboriculturists

    Thu 12 Sep 2019 Mr Leavesley-Matthews

Year 3 were back in the forest this afternoon for their first Forest School session of the year.

After reminding ourselves of the rules for a safe and fun Forest School, children worked independently from the adults to identify trees.

It was amazing to watch and listen into conversations about leaf size, shape and feel; twig colour and texture and even seed types. The children really are experts in the forest.

We collected leaves to press dry and display on our class board.

Of course, trees aren’t just for studying, they also make fantastic dens, swings and climbing frames - there was plenty of time for this too.

  • Stitching and collage in Year 2!

Tue 10 Sep 2019 Mrs Rodriguez

Year 2 got creative today, making dots for our whole school art display which is basedbon the book 'The Dot' by Peter H. Reynolds. The book is about a child who didn't believe they could draw. They learnt, that by taking a risk and having a go, they could achieve wonderful things!

We got out the needles and stitched away to create our dots! Year 2 faced some real challenges: threading a needle, tying knots, using a needle and remembering to pull the wool all the way through without getting in a tangle. The results were amazing! I was so impressed by their 'have a go' attitudes, resilience and supportive team work. We also had a couple of really messy tables where the children were collaging to create dots: they had to work in teams to cut up their resources into small pieces and glue them carefully onto card, ensuring that there were no gaps or pieces sticking out!

Keep your eyes peeled for the finished display!

  • A Delightful start to Year 4

    Sat 07 Sep 2019
What a super bunch the new Year 4 children are. Settling extremely well in their new classroom, they have been caring, keen and curious. We spent a lovely session sharing the summer holiday projects, the effort children have out in is fantastic. Watching them share their experiences with their friends, is heartwarming.
