  • Wattle and Daub'n in Forest School

    Fri 25 Oct 2019 Mr Leavesley-Matthews

Year 3 had a fabulous time in the forest this week for their last session of the Autumn Term.

Inspired by the beautiful houses we saw at Mary Arden's Farm, we created our very own wattle and daub wall!

The children created a sturdy a frame and then collected bendy sticks to weave the 'wattle'.

After that, the children made their own sticky mixture of straw and mud to paste or 'daub' onto the wall.

The finished effect was surprisingly good and well worth getting very muddy for.

  • Timberrrrr! Tree-felling in Year 6

Thu 24 Oct 2019 Mrs McLeod
Epic session in forest school today as Y6 helped Rob fell 3 dead trees.  It was amazing how effective it was and how quickly the fallen wood was moved, cut and stored for firewood.  There was lots of problem solving going on - not always successful first time! There was also lots of team- work, which was a pleasure to see. Well done Year 6. Fabulous work!
  • Year 5 Caring for the Community with the Pick up Artists!

Thu 24 Oct 2019 Kate Jones

On Monday 21st October, Year 5 had the pleasure of joining the incredible "Pick up Artists," Karen and Chris. We took to the streets to help clear our local environment of litter and plastics.

We were utterly shocked at how many bags of rubbish we collected in just an hour - 10 in total - and we wish we could have kept going.

We learnt some very interesting, but devastating, facts about how plastic waste and litter are damaging our world.  It is our responsibility to do something about this!

Don't be surprised if litter pickers appear on your child's Christmas list! They were buzzing with enthusiasm when we returned to school. Please go to the Pick up Artists web page for more details.

Have fun looking though our photos! Look out for more photos of our write up about this experience after half term!

Year 5 I am so proud of you!

  • Police visit for Year 1 and 2

Tue 22 Oct 2019 Mrs Rodriguez
PC Aitkins and PCSO Hopkins visited school today with a panda car! Year 1 and 2 learnt all about what the police do to help keep us safe. They explained parts of their uniform and why they need it and even brought in a huge bag of dress up clothes for us to try on! We got to look in and sit in a panda car and even had the sirens on! We had so many questions about their job and didn't realise just how much they do! Thank you for a great afternoon!
  • Paramedics visit Year 1 and 2

Tue 22 Oct 2019 Mrs Rodriguez

What an exciting afternoon! Year 1 and 2 were very lucky to have a visit from 2 local paramedics AND they brought an ambulance for us all to go in and have a look at.

We learnt all about what paramedics do and how they can keep us safe. They have lots of exciting equipment which can seem scary until you know what it does - we got to play with and explore a lot of the equipment, including an inflatable lift and a heart monitor!

Thank you so much to our volunteers for being so helpful!

  • Body conditioning in Year 6!

Sat 19 Oct 2019 Mrs McLeod
Year 6 have started to learn a series of body strengthening exercises in PE lessons.  We aim to do these regularly at school - the exercises are chosen to build core strength and the major muscle groups in a time-efficient way.  It would be great if children could practice these at home too - they will quickly see positive results if they do!  They build strength through slow movements - the key to progress is slow and steady.
