  • Shadows and Stories in Year 3

    Fri 21 Jun 2019 Year 3

This week, Year 3 have been creating and performing Indian shadow puppet shows to perform to our Early Years children.

The children researched classic stories and reinvented them to have typically Indian names, settings and characters.

Each child pitched their idea to the class. We voted for six of our favourite stories and made up six groups to produce each story as a shadow puppet performance.

Children demonstrated fabulous design and cutting skills creating their puppets. This is a tricky task as they had to design their characters to be effective only as a detailed silhouette.

We transformed the classroom into a theatre and each group did a wonderful job presenting their story. Great job Year 3, well done.

  • Indian Food tasting Session!

    Thu 20 Jun 2019
As part of our Discovery work, this week Year 3 and 4 have been exploring Indian spices and tasting some flavours from this fascinating country. A big thank you to all the support parents and friends of Lickhill for supporting this project. The children are really enjoying finding out about and trying new things to do with India and its culture.

  • Roarsome fun in Year 2!

    Thu 20 Jun 2019

Year 2 have got crafty today, working in groups to collage a mane for our lion as part of our safari topic. We made such a mess!!! Fortunately they are amazing at tidying up so there is no evidence remaining. He is now in place on our classroom wall, positioned so he can keep an eye on the all!!!

  • Honey and Beeswax Sandwich Wraps - Year 3 are ready for the Lickhill Summer Fete

    Thu 20 Jun 2019 Year 3

This Spring, the Lickhill bees have been very busy collecting nectar from our surrounding countryside and storing it in our school hives.

Year 3 have learnt all about this process, and have been as busy as the bees themselves preparing bee products for the Summer Fete.

The honey was harvested and extracted (with help from Barrie) and this has been strained and jarred ready for sale. The remaining wax has also been clarified and we have created a range of eco-friendly, reusable beeswax sandwich wraps.

The children have produced information leaflets, labels, packaging and even decided on the pricing.

All money raised by selling our honey and beeswax products is put directly back into sustaining our Lickhill Honeybee project. The bees have become a unique and fascinating part of our curriculum and outdoor education area.

Products will be on sale at the Summer Fete, we hope you will help support us to continue this fabulous work.

  • School Council

    Sat 15 Jun 2019
This week, the School Council installed mirrors in the children's toilets in the new building. Last year's school council raised money for mirrors, after the class suggestion boxes revealed this was a high priority for Lickhill pupils. Mirrors were purchased for the whole school; including preschool, during the Summer term last year.
